AOP Saint-Chinian Berlou

Saint-Chinian Berlou, the village appellation

In 2005, the AOP Saint-Chinian gave rise to two village-level designations recognising an exceptional terroir: Roquebrun and Berlou. These appellations cover red wines produced exclusively on the schist slopes of these two villages, under a stricter set of rules: mandated grape varieties, yields capped at 40 hl/ha and compulsory hand harvesting.

Berlou requires at least 30% Carignan, complemented by Grenache and Syrah (a minimum of 20% each), on Ordovician schist soils. The result: wines that are both structured and fresh, with aromas of black fruit, garrigue and spices, needing no barrel ageing to express their terroir.

Carnet de Voyage, our flagship cuvée in AOP Saint-Chinian Berlou, is the exception: it is aged in oak barrels. Barely 1,200 bottles produced per vintage — a rare and precious expression of our terroir. Certified Agriculture Biologique.
